MenzGold Brouhaha: How Ghana’s Delegation To Dubai Was Snubbed

Fresh information picked from the Herald Newspaper throws more light on why the owner of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah was not handed over to the Ghanaian delegation who went to get him from Dubai.

According to the Newspaper the owner of Horizon Royal Diamonds, whom NAM1 scammed and goes by the name Daniel is a very powerful man with connections to the ruling family of Dubai, hence his disrespect to the Ghanaian delegation , who went all the way there, to bring back NAM1.

From what we gathered the Ghanaian delegation, could not meet Daniel in Dubai because the latter had traveled out of the country, and did not want to meet the delegation, thus, declaring his intention to make Nana Appaih “rot in Dubai cells”.

In a haste to give a different story, the delegation announced that NAM 1, will return to court in Dubai on February 2, 2019, which is a Saturday, whiles the courts in Dubai don’t work on Saturdays.

This in one way or the other suggests that the government, through the Police and Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is not telling the truth on what transpired in Dubai

Again, there are claims that Interpol is yet to capture NAM1 in its database as fugitive. This is because, the real reason why NAM 1 is in Dubai is known to many officials in the government, especially the Flagstaff House, traditional rulers, top lawyers, the senior police officers, EOCO and others.

Three senior officials at EOCO, were mentioned as holding vital information. They include the Executive Director, KK Amoah, one Bashiru and another by name Walter.

Lawyer Fred Frimpong, captured as the Board Chairman of Menzgold, was also mentioned, as having access to the puzzle, aside Adentunji Adewoye Olorunfemi alias Ade, as Charles Opoku-Darko alias “Chairman”.

An Angolan by name Rodrigues Jose Gomes Maria alias Zerka, is also mentioned to have taken part in the deal. He is identified as worker of Horizon Royal Diamonds DMCC and got a share of the booty which is keeping NAM in the Dubai cell. He has since fled from his employers.

Daniel, is said to be a Palestinian based in Dubai, and had worked his way to the heart of the House of Maktoum, running businesses for the family. Based on this, he is able to have his way around many things including overwhelming access to the Dubai police.

The Herald is further told that while in Ghana, the delegation led by the Minister of State at National Security, Bryan Acheampong, was told that Nana Appiah, was not going to be released to them, however, the delegation decided to gamble mainly to prove to the customers of the Menzgold that the Akufo-Addo government was doing something about the matter.

Ahead of the trip to Dubai, Daniel, had snubbed Ghana’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirate (UAE), Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, by refusing to speak with him on the release of NAM1, who is needed to curl the wave of the protests sweeping across the country, due to the Menzgold saga.

Insiders also told this paper that, Daniel, is technically holding NAM1 to ransom, hoping to get gold from him before he would let him leave Dubai.

This is because, Daniel, believes NAM 1, has gold in Ghana and keeping him in Dubai, will eventually force him to fly the gold to Horizon Royal Diamonds DMCC and gain his freedom.

The delegation that returned home last Friday, got the Ghana Police Service and EOCO saying that the embattled Menzgold CEO, will only be available in Ghana, upon final determination of his case in Dubai brought against him by Horizon Royal Diamonds DMCC.

NAM1 is facing charges of misdemeanour in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a statement jointly signed by the police and EOCO has said.

According to the statement, NAM 1, would be made available to authorities in Ghana, pending the outcome of the case in Dubai.

The statement went on to indicate that the embattled CEO, has cooperated with authorities that went to visit him in Dubai and has given them an extensive statement to assist in their investigations into the Menzgold saga for the requisite action to be taken.

The statement was jointly signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu, the Director-General of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service and Mr Abu Issah, acting Head of the Legal and Prosecution outfit of EOCO, and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

“Mr Mensah was cooperating with EOCO as part of its investigations into a possible breach of Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institution Act, 2016, (Act 930) as reported to it by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

“Upon the breakdown of cooperation, EOCO employed other strategies, including the use of associates and collaborating with other security agencies to make him available for further investigations”.

It said, the Emirati authorities employed similar methods in getting Mr Appiah Mensah to visit the UAE where, he was, subsequently, apprehended.

According to the statement, the delegation from Ghana went to Dubai to determine the nature of the legal processes against the accused person in the UAE and work on extradition processes to get him back to Ghana.

He is due to return to court in Dubai on February 2, 2019. Interestingly, this day is a Saturday, and the courts in Dubai don’t work on Saturday.

Stop the ‘rubbish’! I have no investment with Menzgold – Yvonne Nelson fumes

Actress Yvonne Nelson has rubbished reports making rounds that she invested Ghc330,000 with Menzgold. In a leaked WhatsApp chat, one Torgbe alleged that Yvonne Nelson, Kwame A-Plus, Tracy Boakye and other celebrities invested hugely with Menzgold.

The leaked chat was actually to mock Kwame A-Plus that upon all his noise making, he couldn’t spot that Menzgold was a Ponzi scheme but rather pumped his Ghc2,000,000 in there.

Well, A-Plus responded that if he had that kind of money, he would have bought the owner of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah rather.

Yvonne Nelson whose name appeared in the chat has also denied ever investing with Menzgold and according to the mother one, she never stepped into any of the offices of Menzgold during their five years of operation.

Angry Yvonne Nelson tweeted; “Whoever is using my image in this menzgold crap better watch out! I don’t have any investment with them! Why don’t you write about their artistes. Rubbish!!!”

I Have Nowhere To Go, I Will Die At Zylofon Music – Kumi Guitar

Pioneering signee of Zylofon Media Kumi Guitar has disclosed that the record label has been so good to him that despite the controversies surrounding the label’s sister company, Menzgold, he will not leave.

The ‘I have a dream’ hitmaker believes he is an integral part of the record label, for which reason he will stay regardless.

“Oh no, I can’t leave…for me, I always say I’m Zylofon,” he told Winston Amoah on 3FM’s morning show, Sunrise.

Kumi Guitar noted that even though there are media reports that some of his colleagues have left the record label, he will not leave because they are different people with different aspirations.

The reports last year suggested that gospel artiste, Joyce Blessing, who was also signed to the label, had left.

Although it is not quite clear the reasons for her leaving, many suspects it had something to do with the issues at Menzgold, a gold dealership firm owned by the Zylofon Media boss, Nana Appiah Mensah, who is currently on the police wanted list.

Kumi Guitar, born Nana Yaw Kumi, explained that one thing may work differently for different people, depending on the individuals but not necessarily because the thing is bad, noting Zylofon Media has been good to him.

He admits times are hard not just for the record label he belongs to but also for everybody.

He is hopeful that all those who have their investments locked up at Menzgold, including himself, will have them.

Breaking News: Shatta Michy Missing After Stabbing Wale

Information gathered from indicates that Shatta Michy, girlfriend of Shatta Wale, has absconded together with their son with some documents of the musician.

According to the source, Michy stabbed Shatta Wale’s back with scissors, and other sharp objects. It added that she then took Shatta Wale’s Range Rover and other important documents, and sneaked out of the house without the knowledge of her boyfriend.

Since then, the whereabouts of Michy and Shatta Majesty, their son, has been unknown, for which reason she had been declared wanted. While cannot verify the heavy claims being made by this popular social media user with the name ‘those_called_celebs’, our checks reveal that Michy has been inactive on social media for some time now after the new year started.

Our checks also point to the fact that the last time she ever made a post on Instagram was on January 1, 2019, in which she wished all her fans a happy New Year. Since then, nothing has been heard of Michy, and this is very much unusual of her. If the claims by this social media user is anything to by, then it means the love birds could have a problem.

They had recently made their relationship the talk of the town when Shatta Wale publicly proposed to Michy in October 2018, during the ‘Reign’ Album concert. Michy had expressed surprise about the gesture, saying that she was shocked because she never expected that to happen at the event. The couple then disclosed that they would have their wedding in 2019. However, with the foregoing, it seems that wedding would have to be on hold till the issues between them are sorted out.

Menzgold Prepares ‘Comprehensive Final Payment Plan’ To Settle Customers

Menzgold Ghana Limited has given the clearest indication yet that it is meeting all stakeholders in order to agree on a payment plan to have all customers settled once and for all.

The Acting Communications Director of the gold-trading firm told TV3’s Ebenezer Agyekum in an interview on Wednesday that the schedule being drafted is expected to have all customers settled.

Nii Armah Amarteifio indicated, however, that only principals will be paid, just as was agreed at a meeting with customers in 2018.

“We can’t pay extra values,” he pointed out.

Events after the shutdown of Menzgold Ghana Limited in September, 2018 have led to the court issuing a bench warrant for the arrest of all directors of the company, in the name of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Customers have staged separate demonstrations across the country, demanding payment of their deposits.

Mr Amarteifio revealed that the behind-the-scenes engagement with stakeholders involves the board of the company.

“Immediately we are done, then we will come out with the final payment schedule that will now spell out when we are going to pay our customers,” he noted.

He lamented the company’s inability to follow payment plans issued last year, blaming the situation on the challenges it went through.

Menzgold duly apologized to its customers, he observed.

Menzgold customers should forget about their money – Prophet Gaisie reveals

“That is why this time around we are taking our time [and] being extremely circumspect to come out with the final payment schedule.

“That is why we are engaging the stakeholders. That is why we are engaging the board to sit down to really come out with a comprehensive final payment plan.”

He noted that the company will not come out with any notice until the stakeholders are fully done with the engagement.

“This is something that we have promised to come out with [and] then we will follow it through so that we pay everybody till the end and then this problem will be solved.”

They all face charges of defrauding by false pretences.

MENZGOLD: CID Boss On NAM1’s ‘Arrest

The Police Criminal Investigations Department says it has no case lodged against chief executive of Menzgold Ghana, Nana Appiah Mensah,  who is said to have fled Ghana in the midst of the firm’s crisis that is likely to cost thousands of customers their investment.

On the back of series of demonstrations to put pressure on government to intervene in the crisis, private legal practitioner Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko on Tuesday claimed Mr. Appiah Mensah was arrested but absconded.

“I understand the owner of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, has breached his bail condition and absconded,” he said in a Facebook post but did not give further details as to when he was arrested and by who and how he was able to escape.

When contacted to establish the veracity of the claim by Mr. Otchere-Darko, Director of the Police CID, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, said as far as the Police were concerned, they have “never arrested or invited” Nana Appiah Mensah.

She said there is no complaint at the Police Headquarters as at Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

However, she told that she is aware the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is investigating Mr. Apppiah Mensah who is said to be hiding in South Africa due to agitation by customers of his Menzgold who have been demanding for their investments.

The Bank of Ghana in August last year issued a public notice that Menzgold Ghana Limited is not licensed and has no authority to engage in the solicitation, receipt of money or investments and the payment of dividends or returns to its clients which is captured in Section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

It also hinted of impending sanctions, saying after several cautions to Menzgold, it has started discussions with relevant regulatory authorities to sanction them for breaching the law.

Though Menzgold called the bluff of the central bank, it was forced to shut down in September 2018 by the SEC.

As part of the shutdown notice, the firm was ordered not to take new contracts (investments).

SEC claimed evaluation of Menzgold’s documentations show the company does not have the licences to trade in gold, and that, its operations are in breach of Act 929 “as well as a threat to unsuspecting and uninformed investors”.

The company has since been in tango with SEC as well as customers and investors who are demanding their returns and investments.

But when the issues appeared to have escalated due to pressure from the customers, Nana Appiah Mensah run to parliament with a petition to intervene so the company can resume operations and pay its customers.

The company pleaded with the House to particularly intervene in the impasse between it and the SEC, which the company claimed has caused delays in paying its customers interest on their investments.

The company claimed in the petition to the Finance Committee of Parliament that the complete shutdown of its gold collectible vault by SEC has “caused a lot of serious challenges for the company and its customers [both local and foreign]”.

Accordingly, the firm wants parliament to “intervene and help resolve this matter amicably”.
